About West Side Teq
West Side Teq is an AI implementation firm founded by Max Douthit, a former commercial loan underwriter who spent years taking businesses apart on paper before he started building software for them. The model is simple. We audit a business to find where it's losing money (missed calls, slow follow-up, uncollected invoices, manual admin), then we design, build, and run the AI systems that fix it. Every client sees the results in a monthly report, in dollars. The company is small, the work is hands-on, and everything we ship runs inside a real business the next day.
The role
This is a hands-on apprenticeship in applied AI. You'll work directly with our prompt engineers, supporting their workflows, taking on scoped tasks, and learning how AI systems get built and deployed inside real businesses. You'll report to the project manager and pick up a wide range of assignments, from prompt testing and data cleanup to research, documentation, and QA on live systems. Learning is a large part of the job, and it's structured: as you hit milestones, you take on more, and once you reach a defined level you can move into an AI Prompt Engineer position with the company.
What you'll do
- Assist AI Prompt Engineers with day-to-day build and testing work
- Test prompts and automations, log what breaks, and help fix it
- Research tools, APIs, and approaches for upcoming client projects
- Help with documentation, data preparation, and QA
- Take on a growing list of responsibilities as your skills develop
- Complete a variety of tasks assigned by the project manager
What you'll need
- No prior experience required
- A strong work ethic and a real eagerness to learn
- Curiosity about AI and a willingness to get your hands dirty with it
- Reliability: you show up, you follow through, you ask when you're stuck
Nice to have
- Any exposure to coding, even self-taught
- Coursework or personal projects involving AI tools
- Interest in how businesses operate
Compensation and schedule
$15 per hour. Part-time with flexible scheduling; hours are set together based on your availability and project needs.
Location
Hybrid, based in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Some in-person time each week, the rest remote.
Where this leads
This role is designed as a pipeline. Interns who reach the defined skill benchmarks are considered for AI Prompt Engineer positions ($5,000 per month, fully remote).
