AI Prompt Engineer
Build custom AI products and systems for West Side Teq clients using AI-assisted development and conventional coding, and help build the company's own digital infrastructure.
About West Side Teq
West Side Teq is an AI implementation firm founded by Max Douthit, a former commercial loan underwriter who spent years taking businesses apart on paper before he started building software for them. The model is simple. We audit a business to find where it's losing money (missed calls, slow follow-up, uncollected invoices, manual admin), then we design, build, and run the AI systems that fix it. Every client sees the results in a monthly report, in dollars. The company is small, the work is hands-on, and everything we ship runs inside a real business the next day.
The role
Day to day, you'll be prompting AI models and development tools to build software that's tailored to a specific client: the automations, agents, and integrations on their roadmap. Some of it is "vibe coding," steering AI tools to generate and refine working systems. Some of it is regular coding when that's the right call. You'll also take on projects that build out West Side Teq's internal infrastructure. You'll work alongside the Master AI Prompt Engineer and have a real say in how things get built.
What you'll do
- Build client AI systems from roadmap items: lead follow-up, scheduling, collections, intake, reporting, and whatever else the audit calls for
- Write and refine prompts, tool configurations, and evaluation checks so systems behave reliably in production
- Connect AI systems to the tools clients already use
- Contribute to internal tooling and infrastructure projects
- Test your own work thoroughly before it goes live inside a client's business
- Keep clear documentation and handoff notes
What you'll need
- A general background in coding or engineering. No degree required; we care about what you can build
- An advanced understanding of AI technology and prompt engineering: you already know how to get consistent, useful results from language models and AI coding tools
- A solid foundation to build on. You'll sharpen your skills on the job, but you need to arrive able to ship
- Self-direction. Progress is tracked against benchmarks and deadlines, not hours, so you need to manage your own time well
Nice to have
- Shipped projects you can show, in any form
- Experience with APIs and third-party integrations
- Familiarity with how small businesses actually operate
Compensation and schedule
$5,000 per month. No set hours, no fixed schedule. You're measured on benchmarks and deadlines. Work in whatever way gets the work done well.
Location
Fully remote.
Where this leads
Strong performers move toward the Master AI Prompt Engineer role and toward owning client relationships end to end.
