Master AI Prompt Engineer

About West Side Teq
West Side Teq is an AI implementation firm founded by Max Douthit, a former commercial loan underwriter who spent years taking businesses apart on paper before he started building software for them. The model is simple. We audit a business to find where it's losing money (missed calls, slow follow-up, uncollected invoices, manual admin), then we design, build, and run the AI systems that fix it. Every client sees the results in a monthly report, in dollars. The company is small, the work is hands-on, and everything we ship runs inside a real business the next day.
The role
This is the senior technical seat. You'll take a client roadmap (a ranked list of money leaks with dollar figures attached) and turn it into working software: AI agents, automations, integrations, dashboards, and the plumbing that connects them to the client's existing tools. You'll work primarily through AI-assisted development (what people call "vibe coding") backed by real engineering judgment, and you'll write conventional code wherever that's the better tool. You'll also own pieces of West Side Teq's own digital infrastructure. You're expected to set the technical bar for the team and to prove out approaches the AI Prompt Engineers then follow.
What you'll do
- Design and build custom AI systems for clients, from first prompt to production deployment
- Architect integrations with client CRMs, phone systems, scheduling tools, invoicing platforms, and internal databases
- Build and maintain the company's internal tooling and infrastructure
- Set standards for prompt design, evaluation, and reliability across client systems
- Review and guide the work of AI Prompt Engineers and interns
- Diagnose and fix production issues fast; these systems run inside real businesses
- Document what you build so clients and teammates can rely on it
What you'll need
- A strong engineering foundation: software engineering coursework at the college level, or equivalent demonstrated rigor
- Evidence of going beyond the classroom: coding competitions, hackathons, open-source contributions, extracurricular programs, or a substantial body of shipped projects
- Advanced understanding of how large language models work and how to get reliable results from them: prompt design, tool use, evaluation, failure modes
- Intermediate to advanced hands-on experience with AI development tools, proven through a portfolio of projects or a live demonstration during the hiring process
- Comfort owning outcomes without supervision; you'll be measured on what ships, not on hours logged
Nice to have
- Experience integrating with business systems (telephony APIs, CRMs, payment processors, scheduling platforms)
- Prior work in a small company or agency where you shipped for external clients
- Any background in operations, finance, or running a business; it helps you read a client's problem faster
Compensation and schedule
$20,000 per month, plus performance bonuses tied to delivery and client outcomes. There are no set hours and no fixed schedule. Progress is measured against agreed benchmarks and deadlines. Work when and how you work best, as long as the milestones land.

Fully remote.
